Introduction to Cold Wax & Oil
Explore the rich surfaces, subtle depth, and creative possibilities of cold wax and oil painting in this two-day small group intensive at Porter Mill Studios.
Cold wax medium offers artists a unique way to build layers, create texture, reveal underlying colors, and develop beautifully soft, velvety surfaces. Unlike encaustic painting, cold wax does not require heat, making the process especially flexible and spontaneous.
Through demonstrations and hands-on experimentation, you’ll learn how cold wax interacts with oil paint and how a variety of tools can be used to apply, remove, scrape, roll, and manipulate the surface.
